If you had asked me years ago if I ever wanted to share my home with cockatoos, I would have said DO NOT EVEN ASK- NO !!! The ones I knew were WAY too loud, too demanding and just too much......... BOY, have things changed....... LOL. Well, NOT the cockatoos- they are still LOUD, DEMANDING and TOO MUCH but we love them.

Enter in to our lives Pippin. A dear friend who also helps birds in need emailed me- could we help.... She is having some challenges of her own, she got a call about a cockatoo and could we find a family for her.

Pippins family loves her VERY much ! They bought a large "apartment" (we don't like calling them cages...) for her, she had toys, attention, all kinds of wonderful foods to eat and she loved them. As life is sometimes, things started to be a problem. Pippin, like most cockatoos, is very demanding- she let them know she wanted more attention in one of the only ways a cockatoo know how- she screamed.

With a dad who is a fire fighter, 4 children, two dogs, another smaller parrot and a busy mom, Pippin didn't get as much attention as she needed. She plucked her feathers a small amount and her humans thought maybe she would be happier with someone who could give her more attention, where she could scream when she wanted and maybe some other cockatoo friends.

Just before we heard about Pippin, I heard about a man who was looking to adopt an Umbrella Cockatoo. Normally, we don't allow "specific" bird requests, but after talking with the man, learning he had an umbrella that passed away recently (from liver problems) we decided he sounded perfect.

He met Pippin and her family and he brought her home. Sadly, it didn't work out. Pippin started to pluck more and it upset the man so much he brought Pippin back to her family

When they called us to tell us what happened, we decided we would take her in here at HTH. We have another Umbrella Cockatoo, Cheerio, who she could be friends with if she wanted and well, with 3 Moluccans, 2 Goffins, A medium Sulphur and a Red Vented Cockatoo... it isn't exactly quiet here and we just don't mind it.
