This is Beakie, a Goffins Cockatoo... Take a look at her beak. When she was just a few weeks old an Eclectus who was in the same cage as her in the pet store started beak wrestling with her. Because baby birds beaks are softer and not hard as adults, Beakies beak basically POPPED off but NOT all the way....
The pet shop owner called me and we picked her up and rushed her to the vet. Sadly, her beak couldn't be saved... Beakie didn't miss a beat !! Once it was removed and we had to handfeed her, it was like nothing had happened. She took her hand feedings AND started to nibble on the monkey chow and veggies we offered her.......
Within a short time she was eating a regular diet of veggies, fruit, pellets, seeds, muffins and just about anything else she wanted. She also plays with toys AND quite amazingly.. CAN BITE !! AND LEAVE QUITE A MARK AS WELL !!!
